Chief Shane Streepy began his law enforcement career with the Austin Police Department in 2003 as a patrol officer in south central Austin. After several years on patrol, he transitioned to the Street Response Unit, a specialized unit focused on addressing quality-of-life crimes in south Austin neighborhoods. During his time as an officer, Chief Streepy served as a Field Training Officer (FTO) and was a member of the Special Response Team (SRT), Counter Assault Strike Team (CAST), and Critical Incident Negotiation Team.

After nine years as an officer, Chief Streepy was promoted to Detective and assigned to the Organized Crime Division, where he served in both the Narcotics Unit and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. While assigned to the task force, he was deputized as a Federal Task Force Officer with the FBI. Chief Streepy and his colleagues received the Meritorious Unit Award for their multi-year investigation and successful apprehension of a violent criminal enterprise responsible for the murder of a juvenile victim.

Following his promotion to Sergeant, Chief Streepy supervised officers and detectives in the Street Narcotics Unit and Tactical Intelligence Unit. While assigned to the Tactical Intelligence Unit, he was deputized as a Lone Star Fugitive Task Force Officer with the United States Marshals Service, assisting in the apprehension of violent offenders throughout Central Texas. During his tenure, the Tactical Intelligence Unit received the U.S. Marshals Service Distinguished Group Award for its innovative implementation of body-worn camera policies for a federal task force. Under his leadership, the unit was also recognized as the Austin Police Department's Unit of the Year.

After being promoted to Lieutenant, Chief Streepy simultaneously led the Special Investigations Unit, Homicide Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit, and Tactical Intelligence Unit. In these roles, he supervised complex and high-profile investigations while advancing the use of technology and specialized training to support modern cold case investigations.

Throughout his career with the Austin Police Department, Chief Streepy also contributed to numerous department-wide initiatives, including union representation, staffing committees, awards committees, executive protection, strategic planning, and adjunct instruction in subjects ranging from firearms to search warrant preparation.

In April 2024, Chief Streepy joined The University of Texas at Austin Police Department as Assistant Chief, where he oversaw departmental operations, including patrol and investigations. In this role, he helped implement new technologies, expand community engagement efforts, and advance transformational leadership initiatives. In September 2024, Chief Streepy was appointed Chief of Police for The University of Texas at Austin Police Department. As an alumnus of The University of Texas at Austin, he is honored to lead the dedicated public servants responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the university community.

Chief Streepy is committed to building strong partnerships with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, as well as private-sector stakeholders. His collaborative leadership continues to support innovative policing strategies that strengthen public safety while reflecting the expectations and values of the university community. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at El Paso, a Master of Criminal Justice from Boston University, and a Master of Public Affairs from The University of Texas at Austin (EMPL '19). He is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command (Class 552), where he received the Franklin M. Kreml Leadership Award, and is also a recipient of the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Award.

Outside of work, Chief Streepy enjoys traveling with family and friends and is an avid sports fan who can often be found cheering on the Texas Longhorns.
