Lieutenant
Night Shift Patrol Operations & Training
Lieutenant Jeff Crawford oversees the evening patrol shifts and the department’s Training Unit. In this role, he collaborates with department leadership to identify training needs and works closely with Training Unit personnel to develop, coordinate, and deliver professional development programs. These programs include continuing education, certification courses, and specialized training designed to ensure compliance with Texas law enforcement standards, promote best practices, and address the evolving needs of the university community.
Prior to joining UTPD, Lieutenant Crawford honorably retired from the Austin Police Department after more than 30 years of distinguished service. Throughout his career, he served in a wide range of assignments that provided him with extensive operational and investigative experience, including Uniformed Patrol, SWAT, the Gang Unit, Homicide, Burglary Investigations, and Bomb Squad.
In addition to his law enforcement service, Lieutenant Crawford has served as an Adjunct Instructor with the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (A.L.E.R.R.T.) Center, helping train law enforcement officers from across the nation in active attack response tactics and critical incident management.
A strong advocate for professional development, Lieutenant Crawford firmly believes that well-trained officers are better prepared to serve and protect their communities. His commitment to training continues to enhance the capabilities of our officers and strengthen public safety on campus and beyond.
