Assistant Vice President for Campus Security

Pat Connor serves as the Assistant Chief of Police for The University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD), joining the department in 2025. In this role, he provides executive oversight of police operations, criminal investigations, Patrol Services, West Campus Patrol, and the K-9 Unit.

Assistant Chief Connor began his law enforcement career with the Austin Police Department in 2000. During his time with APD, he developed a strong foundation in patrol operations, particularly in the Downtown Area Command, which included West Campus. He later transitioned into investigative assignments, serving in several specialized units before promoting to Sergeant, where he supervised personnel in the Downtown Area Command, Internal Affairs, and the Organized Crime Division.

As a Lieutenant, Assistant Chief Connor oversaw patrol operations in West Austin, including the downtown area and West Campus. He later returned to the Organized Crime Division, where he supervised a diverse group of specialized units and Task Force Officers. He was subsequently assigned to the Chief's Office to support the operational needs of the department.

In 2016, Assistant Chief Connor was promoted to Commander and served in a variety of leadership assignments, including Internal Affairs, Risk Management, and Patrol. During his final four years with the Austin Police Department, he served as Commander of Investigations, leading complex, high-profile criminal investigations and supervising multiple violent crimes investigative units.

After retiring from the Austin Police Department in 2023, Assistant Chief Connor served as Security Operations Manager for the Austin Convention Center. In this role, he was responsible for planning and overseeing security operations for large-scale events held at both the Austin Convention Center and Palmer Event Center.

Assistant Chief Connor joined The University of Texas at Austin Police Department in 2025, where he continues to support the department's mission through executive leadership and operational oversight.

Assistant Chief Connor holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Texas State University, is a Texas Master Peace Officer, and is a graduate of the Certified Public Manager Program at Texas State University. Throughout his career, he has completed advanced leadership, investigative, emergency management, and public safety training programs.
