Day Shift Patrol, Medical District & Special Projects

As the Day Shift Lieutenant, Lieutenant Hector R. Luevano Jr. oversees daily patrol operations for The University of Texas at Austin Police Department, as well as for the Medical District, including oversight of the region's Level I Trauma Center and associated healthcare facilities. In this role, he provides leadership, operational direction, and supervisory oversight to patrol personnel, ensuring the delivery of professional law enforcement services, emergency response, crime prevention initiatives, and community-oriented policing efforts.

Lieutenant Luevano also manages Special Projects, coordinating departmental projects, strategic initiatives, and cross-functional collaborations that support the university's public safety objectives. His responsibilities include fostering partnerships with university leadership, local law enforcement agencies, and community organizations to enhance campus safety, operational effectiveness, and emergency preparedness. Consistent with UTPD's community policing philosophy, he works closely with campus partners and community stakeholders to identify emerging concerns, develop proactive solutions, and promote a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors.

Originally from the South Texas Hill Country, Lieutenant Luevano attended Texas State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. His upbringing and education instilled in him the values of service, integrity, and community. Today, he is committed to supporting The University of Texas at Austin by fostering positive relationships, promoting public safety, and helping create an environment where students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors can succeed. Through collaboration and a community-focused approach, he strives to contribute to the university's mission every day.
