Mike Jones is a Lieutenant with The University of Texas at Austin Police Department, bringing nearly three decades of distinguished law enforcement experience to his role. Over the course of his 29-year career, he served with the Laredo Police Department and the Austin Police Department, where he developed extensive expertise in policing operations, leadership, and community engagement. He is currently assigned as the Staff Lieutenant over Special Events, Executive Protection, and Staff Sergeant units.

Throughout his career, Lieutenant Jones has been recognized with numerous awards and commendations, including the Meritorious Service Award, Life Saving Award, Outstanding Performance Award, 20-Year Honorable Conduct Award, Master Peace Officer certification, Fitness Award, Safe Driving Award, and Unit of the Year honors. These distinctions reflect his commitment to excellence, professionalism, and public service.

Lieutenant Jones believes effective leadership is grounded in integrity, accountability, and leading from the front. He emphasizes clear communication, decisive action under pressure, and empowering officers to perform at their highest level. His leadership approach prioritizes officer safety, community trust, and adherence to policy and best practices. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Lieutenant Jones enjoys hunting and fishing, as well as attending sporting events, particularly hockey and football. A proud supporter of Texas athletics, he can often be found cheering on the Longhorns.
