Lieutenant

Lieutenant Mike Jones serves with The University of Texas at Austin Police Department and brings nearly three decades of law enforcement experience. Over the course of his 29-year career, he served with the Laredo Police Department and the Austin Police Department, developing extensive experience in policing operations, leadership, and community engagement.

Throughout his career, Lieutenant Jones has received numerous awards and commendations, including the Meritorious Service Award, Life Saving Award, Outstanding Performance Award, 20-Year Honorable Conduct Award, Fitness Award, Safe Driving Award, and Unit of the Year honors. He also holds a Master Peace Officer certification. These distinctions reflect his commitment to excellence, professionalism, and public service.

Lieutenant Jones believes effective leadership is grounded in integrity, accountability, and leading from the front. He emphasizes clear communication, decisive action under pressure, and empowering officers to perform at their highest level. His leadership approach prioritizes officer safety, community trust, and adherence to policy and best practices. He is also committed to mentorship and developing the next generation of law enforcement professionals.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Lieutenant Jones enjoys hunting and fishing, as well as attending sporting events, particularly hockey and football. A proud supporter of Texas athletics, he can often be found cheering on the Longhorns.
