Night Shift Patrol Lieutenant & Field Training Coordinator

Jimmy Moore serves as the Night Shift Patrol Lieutenant and Field Training Coordinator for The University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD). In his role as Night Shift Patrol Lieutenant, he maintains operational command and ownership of Night Shift Patrol Divisions 1 and 2, overseeing personnel, deployments, critical incident response, and proactive policing initiatives that support the safety and security of the university community.

As the department’s Field Training Coordinator, Lieutenant Moore manages the planning, scheduling, development, and assignment of UTPD’s Field Training Officer (FTO) Program. He is committed to maintaining a proactive and forward-thinking approach to officer development, ensuring training needs are anticipated and addressed to promote operational readiness and prevent last-minute staffing or training challenges.

Lieutenant Moore works closely with academy personnel, university stakeholders, community partners, and department leadership to support the professional growth of officers and strengthen collaborative relationships across the campus community. His leadership philosophy emphasizes education, mentorship, accountability, and service-oriented policing.

With approximately 25 years of service in law enforcement, Lieutenant Moore has dedicated his entire career to UTPD, beginning as a security officer before becoming a sworn police officer and rising through the ranks of the organization. His extensive institutional knowledge and long-standing commitment to the department provide a unique perspective on public safety and community engagement.

A proud departmental legacy, Lieutenant Moore followed in the footsteps of his father, Jimmy Moore Sr., who retired from UTPD as a Sergeant. Having been connected to the department since childhood, Lieutenant Moore has developed a lifelong appreciation for the UTPD family and remains dedicated to building strong partnerships between the university, the department, and the broader community. Through those relationships, he continues to advance UTPD’s mission of providing exceptional public safety services while fostering trust, collaboration, and a safe environment for all members of the Longhorn community.
