Donald Smith

Public Safety Officer Lieutenant

Donald Smith serves as the Lieutenant overseeing the Public Safety Officers for The University of Texas at Austin Police Department. He coordinates the vision and supervises the Public Safety Officers. His responsibilities include supervising the Public Safety Officer sergeants, developing operating procedures, coordinating patrols of campus, organizing training, and creating the standards for the Public Safety Officers.

Donald works closely with department leadership, building managers, ITS-EPSS, Locks and Keys, and other members of the UT community. He openly communicates with various departments across the University of Texas at Austin to ensure that the UT community is safe and secure. Donald continuously updates patrols and procedures to ensure that the Public Safety Officers SERVE the UT community.

Donald was born in Austin, but moved around often as the son of a member of the Air Force. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas in 2010. He combines knowledge of diverse cultures, a lifetime of being on military bases, and many years of service at UTPD to help SERVE the UT community.
