Captain
Captain Chris Rybarski serves with The University of Texas at Austin Police Department and brings more than 28 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career with the Austin Police Department in 1998 following his service in the United States Army, building a distinguished career centered on public safety, leadership, and service to the community.
During his time with APD, Captain Rybarski served in a variety of specialized roles, including 10 years with the Austin Police Bomb Squad as a certified Bomb Technician, Explosive Breacher, SWAT team member, and team leader. He also served as an instructor and team leader for the department’s Dive Recovery Team and held assignments in the Organized Crime Division and with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, where he led investigations involving domestic and international terrorism. He was part of the investigative response to the Austin serial bombings and worked closely with schools across Central Texas to support threat and behavioral assessment efforts.
After retiring from APD in 2021, Captain Rybarski continued his service with the Texas Attorney General’s Office Child Exploitation Unit. He later served three school years as Chief of Police for the Liberty Hill ISD Police Department, where he led a 27-member team and supported the safety and well-being of students, staff, and families.
Captain Rybarski is committed to public service, collaborative leadership, and building strong relationships across the university community.
