UT community members and area stakeholders now have storefront access to university police in West Campus with the opening of UTPD West—a satellite office for the University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD).
UTPD West is located on the first floor of Walter Webb Hall (WWH) at 25th and Guadalupe Street, 405 West 25th Street. It will operate as a storefront business, open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with plans for extension of hours later this fall.
The new space was made by possible through grant funding provided by the UT System Board of Regents. In the spring of 2020, UTPD received $8 million dollars to expand police service to create a West Campus District, open a satellite office, hire 13 officers, and add a security camera system. The funds were to be distributed over the course of four years.
UTPD West not only offers a space where community members can walk in to get to know their officers and share concerns, but UTPD also hopes the presence of a satellite office on Guadalupe can act as a deterrent to crime. Partner law enforcement agencies are invited to utilize the space.
