On-Campus Incident — Fire (Robert A. Welch Hall - 105 E 24th St.)

Summary:

On Monday, December 12, 2022, around 8:57 p.m., the University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD) and Austin Fire Department (AFD) responded to the 100 block of E. 24th Street in regards to a fire alarm. The building was safely evacuated.

When first responders arrived on scene, they determined that an active fire was in room 2.404. The building's water sprinklers engaged and Austin firefighters extinguished the fire. AFD determined that a container in the room caught fire. The building did not catch fire. No injuries reported. 

The building was cleared for re-entry, however the 2.400 hallway may remain closed. This incident is not currently being investigated as suspicious and is not considered an arson investigation.
