Victims Advocate Network marks 100 served in 2020

The University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD) Victims Advocate Network (VAN) marked a significant milestone on November 19. Despite the multitude of changes to operations during the pandemic, the team of VAN employees and volunteers who provide immediate crisis intervention services at the scenes of crimes or distressing events has provided care for 100 UT community members and beyond thus far in 2020. 

Response to Governor Abbott sending DPS into West Campus

We thank Governor Abbott for providing the support of the Texas Department of Public Safety to help maintain safety in West Campus where we know many of our students live. We welcome the partnership and assistance as we are enacting an expansion of coverage of our own to be a part of the off-campus policing solution. It is evident our main law enforcement partner, the Austin Police Department (APD), needs more help.

Fall Safety Initiatives

The University of Texas Police Department (UTPD) welcomes the return of students, faculty and staff who will be back on campus this fall. We wish to reassure our community that our operations during the pandemic never ceased. We are actively present at all hours on campus and nearby. Over the summer, we expanded our service area.

UTPD Awarded Accreditation with Excellence

Assistant Vice President for Campus Security and Police Chief David Carter proudly announces the University of Texas at Austin Police Department was awarded Accreditation with Excellence on July 30 by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). This is the second time UTPD has achieved Accreditation with Excellence, the highest honor the department can receive.
