Beginning October 1, 2021, the Austin Police Department will implement changes to its response to calls for service. We want to assure our community that this change will have no impact on how UTPD responds to calls in its service area. We will continue to respond to all 911 calls as usual and support our partners at APD.

We encourage our community members who live in the City of Austin to follow the below safety advice:

  • If you call 911, on campus or in an area close to campus identify yourself as a “UT student” or a “UT employee.”
  • Download and utilize the LiveSafe at UT Austin app. The app gives users the ability to immediately engage in a text conversation with UTPD 911 dispatchers and exchange photos and videos no matter where you are located.
  • Remember, the threshold for calling 911 on campus or reporting an incident via the LiveSafe app is lower than within the City of Austin. We want to hear from our students and employees anytime they feel unsafe.
  • For non-emergency issues—where a risk to life is not involved—email an officer directly assigned to an area on and around campus where you work or live. Together, we can find solutions to any quality of life issue you may face.

We hope you never need us, but we are here if you do.
