Possible Arson - Stengl "Lost Pines" Biological Station (SLP)

Date Occurred


August 3, 2022 

Around 2:12 p.m., on Wednesday, August, 3, 2022, UTPD was notified of a possible arson at the university's Stengl "Lost Pines" Biological Station (SLP) in the 400 block of Old Antioch Rd., Smithville, TX.

The fire reportedly occurred sometime after 11:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2022, and Bastrop Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after. Bastrop firefighters were able to contain the fire and advised no injuries were reported. UTPD detectives are assisting the Texas A&M Forest Service to determine if someone intentionally set fire to the area. This incident is currently being investigated as a possible arson.
