Carothers Dormitory, 2501 Whitis
Occurred on 11-2-05 between 9:30 PM and 9:35 PM.
Theft: A white Apple iPod and it attached earphones were stolen from a table inside a classroom. The owner turned his back to the table to speak with a professor. When the owner turned back to face the table his property had been stolen. Loss value: $100.00.
Crime Prevention Tip:
When I say you should never leave your property unattended, what I mean is you should never turn your back on your property. As you can see, this theft occurred while the owner was just feet away from the property and only took a few seconds. Be mindful of your property.
F.L. Winship Drama Building, 300 East 23rd Street
Occurred on 11-3-05 between 10:00 AM and 2:15 PM.
Theft: A Bianchi Axis bicycle was stolen while it was secured with a cable lock to a bicycle rack located on the east side of the building. Loss value: $500.00.
Crime Prevention Tip:
This is the third bicycle theft from this area in the last three days. If you, or someone you know locks a bicycle to a bicycle rack on the east side of this building take notice. Use a minimum of a u-lock; for maximum security use a u-lock and an independently locking cable lock to secure your bicycle. Report suspicious people to the UT Police Department as soon as possible. Jester Center Academic, 201 East 21st Street
Occurred on 11-3-05 between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM.
Theft: A purse containing a wallet, $10.00 in cash, two credit cards and various identification cards was stolen when it was left in an unsecured 1st floor classroom. Loss value: $40.00.
Moore Hill Dormitory, 214 East 24th Street
Occurred between 11-1-05 at 5:00 PM and 11-2-05 at 9:00 AM.
Theft: A Schwinn bicycle was stolen while it was locked with a cable lock to a bicycle rack located on the southwest side of the dormitory. Loss value: $200.00.
Parking Lot 108, 1500 Red River
Occurred on 11-3-05 at approximately 3:35 PM.
Assault: A UT staff member became upset when advised he would not be allowed to park in the Parking Lot as a result of the pending UT basketball game being held in the Frank Erwin Special Events Center. The staff member then became irate when the UT Parking and Transportation employee requested he drive more prudently so as to not squeal his vehicles tires. The staff member exited his vehicle and proceeded to push the Parking and Transportation employee.
West Mall Office Building, #3 West Mall
Occurred on 11-2-05 between 11:55 AM and 2:30 PM.
Theft: A wallet containing $170.00 cash, a checkbook, two credit cards and one ATM card was stolen from a purse that was left on a chair inside an unsecured 6th floor office. Loss value: $180.00.
Occurred at various times.
Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 3 alarm calls, 4 suspicious activity reports, 1 welfare concern report and 2 requests for service between 11-3-05 and 11-4-05.
