Bernard and Audre Rapoport Building, #5 East Mall

Reported 8-25-05 at 12:10 PM

Suspicious Person: A UT student reported entering the 1st floor women's restroom and observing and male subject standing at the sink. The reporting person stated that this was the second incident this month where a male was found in the women's restroom. The subject is described as: Hispanic male, mid 20's, with curly dark hair. Was last seen wearing a maroon shirt and dark colored shorts.

Brackenridge Apartments, 3400 Block Lake Austin Blvd.

Occurred between 8-22-05 at 11:00 AM and 8-23-05 at 9:00 AM.

Theft: A white Mongoose BMX style bicycle was stolen after being left unsecured outside an apartment. Loss Value: $150.00.

Crime Prevention Tip:

Thieves will strike anywhere there is an opportunity to commit a theft. By leaving property outside of an apartment or house, unsecured it makes their job that much easier.

Frank C. Erwin Special Events Center, 1701 Red River

Occurred on 8-25-05 between 8:00 AM and 10:50 AM.

Theft: A non-UT subject reported the theft of her IBANZ guitar and case after it was left unattended and unsecured outside of the Erwin Center during the American Idol try outs. Loss value: $250.00.

Jester Academic Center, 210 East 21st Street

Occurred between 8-24-05 at 3:30 PM and 8-25-05 at 11:10 AM.

Theft: A 4' X 5' wood and metal frame table was stolen from outside of a third floor office after being left unsecured. Loss Value $100.00

Crime Prevention Tip:

This was the second table stolen from this area in the past year. If property needs to be stored outside of an office or is set out in a public access area for others to use, take some additional time and have that property affixed to the floor or wall so that it can not be removed.

Perry-Castañeda Library, 101 East 21st Street

Occurred on 8-26-05 at 5:01 AM.

Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was found sleeping in the planter box located on the southwest side of the building. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Occurred at various times.

Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 7 alarm calls, 2 unsecured door reports, 2 suspicious activity reports, 1 medical emergency, and 1 call for service between 8-24-05 and 8-25-05.

Welcome Back. Today is the first day of Moove-In and thousands of students are returning for the fall semester. Many of the faculty and staff members are out helping. Take a few minutes of your time to help watch over someone's property and keep it secure as they move into their dormitory rooms. Also encourage them to mark their property with and engraver an use their State issued driver's license number to show ownership.
