Occurred on 8-1-05 at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Unauthorized Solicitation: An unidentified subject approached a UT student and asked the student for money. The subject stated he would harm himself if the student did not give him money. The student entered the Union Building and reported the subject to a Union Building staff member. The subject was described as a black male in his 50's, approximately 6'5" tall with black and grey hair and wearing a white t-shirt.
Crime Prevention Tip
Solicitation is prohibited on the UT Campus by the UT Regents' Rules and Regulations. In the last year, there have been some 3 or 4 reports where a subject would ask for money from a student and referencing a desire to harm himself if he did not get what he wanted. The UT Police Department would certainly like to help the subject(s) who are engaging in this activity. You can help us by reporting such suspicious activity as soon as possible. To do this, consider placing the UTPD telephone number in your cell phone's speed dial directory. You can reach the UTPD dispatcher 24-hours a day at 512-471-4441.

Noncriminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, UTPD responded to 11 alarm calls, 2 unsecured door reports, 2 public assist requests, 1 medical emergency, 1 missing child report (child located a short time later) and 2 suspicious activity reports between 8-1-05 and 8-2-05.
