Gateway Apartments, 1650 West 6th Street

Occurred between 5-18-05 and 5-25-05.

Theft: A green 1996 Honda Accord 4-door was stolen while it was parked on the south side of building 1650. Loss value: $2,000.00.

Crime Prevention Tip

The UT Police Department has two recommendations to reduce the likelihood of your vehicle being stolen:

  • A steering wheel lock can prevent your car's steering wheel from being turned. These devices are visible from outside your vehicle, thereby reducing the thief's desire to break in. They can be purchased at a variety of stores.
  • A "kill switch," when installed and turned on, prevents your car from starting. A thief would need to turn the kill switch off before stealing the vehicle. Kill switches can be activated by a key, a keypad or even a hidden toggle switch. Most alarm shops and many window tinting places can install a kill switch on your vehicle.
