The following information was forwarded to this agency through the Silent Witness program: On 9-17-03 at 5:20 pm, two individuals in a newer model white Mercury Mountaineer (Nevada License Plate) approached a UT student at Guadalupe and 24th Street and told the student a stereo company accidentally gave them an extra set of home stereo speakers that were worth "thousands of dollars." The subjects wanted to sell the speakers to the student. The student wisely refused the sale.

This is a popular scam where the seller places fake speakers inside a brand name speaker box and attempts to sell the speaker as the brand name speaker. If you are approached with this scam on campus, contact the University Police Department at 471-4441.
